Geraint Thomas to Skip Benelux Tour, Targets Majorca and Giro d'Italia
Thomas Set to Ramp up Training after Feeling 'Below Par' in Belgium
Geraint Thomas of Team Ineos Grenadiers has withdrawn from the Benelux Tour, opting instead to focus on the upcoming Vuelta a Andalucia and then further training ahead of the Giro d'Italia in May.
Thomas Feeling 'Below Par' After Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
Thomas's decision stems from a disappointing performance at the recent Omloop Het Nieuwsblad where he finished 54th, over 10 minutes behind winner Wout van Aert. "I didn't feel great in Belgium, still a bit below par from a training point of view," Thomas said.
Vuelta a Andalucia and Giro d'Italia Next for Thomas
Thomas will now set his sights on the Vuelta a Andalucia, which runs from February 15-19. This will be followed by a training camp in Mallorca before he returns to racing at the Giro d'Italia, which starts on May 6.
Thomas Aiming for Pink Jersey
Thomas, the 2018 Tour de France winner, will be hoping to challenge for the Giro d'Italia title this year after finishing sixth in 2022. He will be hoping to put in a strong performance in Andalucia and Mallorca to ensure he is in peak condition for the Grand Tour.
