University of Florida President Ben Sasse to Resign

Former Republican Senator Ben Sasse was appointed in 2023
The University of Florida announced today that President Ben Sasse will resign from his current position effective July 31, 2024. Sasse cited his wife's health as the reason for his departure.
Sasse, 52, is a former Republican senator from Nebraska. He was appointed president of the University of Florida in February 2023.
In a statement, Sasse said, "It is with a heavy heart that I make this announcement. My wife, Melissa, has been struggling with her health, and we have decided that it is in the best interest of our family for me to step down from my position as president of the University of Florida.
Sasse praised the University of Florida and its students, faculty, and staff. He said, "I have been honored to serve as president of this great university. The University of Florida is a special place, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have led it.
The University of Florida will begin a search for Sasse's replacement immediately.
