Kansas City Star Calls for Apology After Butker's Anti-Pride Remarks
Butker Criticizes LGBTQ+ Community, Working Women in Commencement Speech
Harrison Butker, kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, has come under fire for remarks he made during a commencement speech at his alma mater, Benedictine College.
Butker, who is a devout Catholic, criticized Pride month, saying that it was "a celebration of sin." He also criticized working women, saying that they were "abandoning their families." Butker's remarks have been widely condemned by LGBTQ+ advocates and women's rights groups.
The Kansas City Star has called on Butker to apologize for his remarks, saying that they were "offensive and harmful." The newspaper also said that Butker's speech was "not in keeping with the values of the Kansas City Chiefs."
Butker has not yet apologized for his remarks. He has, however, defended his right to freedom of speech, saying that he was simply expressing his own beliefs.
