Jacinda Ardern Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford

Jacinda Ardern and Clarke Gayford Welcome Baby Girl

Revealing the Name and Arrival Date

Wellington, New Zealand, June 25, 2018

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her partner Clarke Gayford have welcomed a baby girl. The Prime Minister announced the news via a post on her official Instagram account at 154 pm on June 24, 2018.

The baby has been named Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford. Neve is a Gaelic name meaning "bright" or "radiant," and Te Aroha is a Maori name meaning "the love." The couple chose the name Te Aroha as it is both personal to them and reflects their love for New Zealand.

Prime Minister Ardern and Mr. Gayford have been in a relationship since 2005. They announced their engagement in April 2013 and welcomed their first child in June 2018. The Prime Minister is the first woman in New Zealand's history to give birth while in office.

The couple has asked for privacy while they enjoy this special time with their new family.
